The Labyrinth

Labyrinth patterns are known as far back as the Nothern European Bronze Age, ancient Egypt and from Celtic, Mayan, Greek, Roman and Native American cultures. During the 12th century when the crusades made the pilgrimage to Jerusalem too hazardous, the church in Rome designated certain cathedrals in Europe as pilgrimage sites. Pilgrims would walk to these cathedral sites and symbolically complete their physical and spiritual pilgrimage by walking the labyrinth in the floor of the cathedral nave. They were used for centuries for this purpose until three or four hundred years ago when the use of labyrinths became lost. Humanity shifted its focus to patriarchal, rational and scientific thinking, almost to the total exclusion and suppresion of intuitive, feminine and creative energy. As a result, the power of this magnificent divine imprint was questioned.

Now, however, in the 21st century humanity is being challenged with another major shift in conscious awareness, One of moving forward as whole integrated human beings with head and heart centres united. The Labyrinth is one of the most powerful tools available to support this alignment between cognitive and creative principles.

The labyrinth reflects back to each seeker whatever she/he needs to discover at new levels of conscious awareness. It allows Soul to interact with the body in true partnership. It is a walking meditation that transcends the limits of still meditation, as the movement removes excess energy that can hinder the quietening of the mind. It brings about change and transformation to all who use it.
