Release

The final step in successful rehabilitation is final, permanent release.

  • To Nature Conservation approved suitable game parks/ conservancy areas for natural biodiversity preservation.
  • Estimated number of 15 to 30 baboons per troop. This number could be varied depending on the progress and findings as the project advances.
  • Troop composition will be interdependent on available orphaned/ injured/ confiscated baboons as well as the interaction and compatibility of the baboons which are obtained (Socialisation factors).
  • Close monitoring of behavioral patterns will probably be an important guide in this parameter as will the hierarchy formed within the group. Overall the troop will be "balanced", with regard to male/ female and adult/ juvenile, the important factor being the ability to cope as a troop in nature.
  • Varied age structures
  • Proportion of males to females per unit may vary, as natural troops are not tightly defined.
  • Troop composition is not the most relevant factor necessary for rehabilitation success.
